I agree with what has been said, but feel obligated to point out you are not likely to obtain a dissenting opinion either. Your premise is that although you are satisfied with your current McIntosh equipment, it does not meet the ne plus ultra level of the 2301. Fair enough, but will the remainder of your system be on par? For instance I have a C70 and I really can’t get a complete sense of its performance w/ the 462. Overall it’s more LS than Ref for want of a better shorthand. I think the C70 is a good pairing for the 462, but maybe not for the 2301?

I would also like to upgrade from the 601's to the 2301's.

One question. How much heat do they put off?

The 601's don't put off much at all. I have had couple of pairs of tube monoblocks in the past. Summers in Texas, and running a pair of monos, can cause an A/C to work overtime and cut listening times.

I can’t give you a number but mine do get warm to the touch. Along with my PSAudio P10, the MC2301’s do put a load on my AC. But it works so all is good. DEFINITELY not a reason to avoid MC2301s.

Wanna play, Ya gotta pay.

From my poor memory, I thought my MC 275's put out more heat. I have my MC2301's in a more open room and I don't notice any difference with my AC, whether they are on or not.

I was worried about the heat when I ordered the 2301’s. As it turns out, that was a non event, just simply not a issue. My 2301’s are on amp stands so I can’t speak to what happens when in a rack.

my 2 1/2 cents is for the 2301s as well, and I like the C1000 or c500 preamps. To me that combo sounds the best. My 601s are nice, but the 2301s yes yes yes...

Almost a Sleepless in Seattle moment sorry

I'm using the 2301's- C1100 & MCD 500 with a 6 year old pair of SF Stradavari's and am not looking back. Get the 2301's and be happy, and not worry.

I have a 2 Ton AC unit dedicated for my gear/2 Channel room, and whisper fans 2 for each 2301 so heat is not a concern.
