On Saturday evening my wife and I attended a classical concert. Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 ( From The New World) was featured. Today I dug out a CD of that symphony to play. I rarely play CDs these days. The sound was very good. The C2600 sound is growing on me.

Why would increase the noise floor of your system as well as distortion by changing to a tube pre-amp unless you can afford a C-1100? I got rid of tubes a long time ago because they were noisy and annual pain in the butt requiring annual if not bi annual replacement. I'll stick with SS. The secret is getting good source material. Yes tubes can add something and cover up a few issues. But that isn't hifi after all. Is it? IF I hear something I don't like 99% of the time its the source. If the tone controls, graphic EQ's, and other gadgets can't help the sound, it needs to be discarded with other trash we collect.

There is no system anywhere that will reproduce a studio or live concert experience, so we use what we feel sounds best to us. I don't know what kind of gear you were using that needed yearly tube changes, but that is not the case with my C2300.
