That is spot on. I even had a set of Mg 12s in the attic (yes ... not placed in the livingroom with my Naim gear)., I showed my wife a photo of an MG 12 and her reaction not only prompted me not to show her the set I had hidden in the Attic but also forced me to sell on. This was 6 years ago. Since then I have worked in mysterius ways to persuade her that The 1.7s or 3.7s in off white will blend admirably into our livingroom. But I have to say that I am not entirely convinced that this will stand the test of reality: ENTER the Mini Maggies ... To be used in my study. Best wishes, Peter |

The Mini Maggies would certainly do nicely if one has space constraints. ~Mike |

Just heard the system first time yesterday, albeit in a big room. I guess I'll abandon the plan to buy a new working chair and save the money for those minis in my study instead.

I bought a set for my wife's home office and she loves them. They sound very nice. Best desktop speaker I have heard to date.

ths61,
Welcome to the Magnepan forum. Thanks for posting and please tells us more of your impressions. What type of supporting electronic are you using to drive the little Maggies and what type of music does your wife like to listen to? ~Mike |

If I was going to spend serious money one a desktop system, it would probably be in a nice headphone amp and pair of headphones.

Thanks for the welcome. The MiniMaggies are being driven by the following chain: i7-3770S Win7 64-bit/SSD PC -> JRMC18(FLAC) -> Wyred 4 Sound MicroDAC -> Wyred 4 Sound STI-1000. We have our entire digital content on tap. Our entire CD collection was ripped using dBPowerAmp Reference in order to get bit perfect rips. We also have some downloaded HiRez content up to 24/192 as well as some ripped DVD and BluRay concerts at their respective native resolutions. Once she leaned how to use JRMC-18, she uses the library much more than she did with the shiny spinners. She likes upbeat music, soundtracks and dance music for the most part, but also appreciates some of my audiophile stuff (she also dislikes a lot of my stuff =). She replays a 24-bit Ryan Adams and The Cardinals live concert performed at "Das Haus" in Germany a lot. This has a huge sound stage and is a recording straight off the concert's mixing board. The MiniMaggies sound really nice when they are setup properly. For reference, we have a pair of MC2's, 3.6's, 20.1's. When I got the MiniMaggies (ordered without hearing them), I plugged them into the HT to break them in (didn't recalibrate ARC). She was downright upset with my purchase until I moved them to her office and properly set them up after break-in. Once they were properly setup, I asked her to come into her office and listen. She was less than pleased telling me she had already heard them and wasn't impressed. I sat her down and played some of her music with a nice sound stage. Her face lit up and said they didn't sound like that before. I told her that is because they were not setup properly in the HT room. She now cranks them to the point where they interfere with my conference calls. They are the best desktop speakers that we have heard to date. They present a left-2-right and front-2-back sound stage. We were looking at the Anthony Gallo's in the same price range, but did not like their sound and waited for the MiniMaggies to finally make it to market. They work nice in a near-field office setup, but have not found them to be a 3.X replacement for a larger room. On the other hand, I have not spent a lot of time trying to get the most out of them in a larger room. I would buy another pair for my office in a heartbeat, but my office has too much ambient noise to appreciate them. My office has too many servers running, while her office has a very quiet purpose-hand-built PC. I have some other amps around that I may try with the MiniMaggies in the future, but I have no complaints about the current setup. The next office mods are solid core doors that seal on 3 sides with a bottom drop-down flap for better isolation. HTH, Tim |
