Default AcousticSounds Acquires Classic Records

Before I begin the newsletter -- I'm glad the Classic Records label will continue under the direction of Chad!

Here's the press release (dated 07/27/2010):

Acoustic Sounds Purchases Classic Records

Chad Kassem's Acoustic Sounds has purchased audiophile industry leader Classic Records. "This is a big acquisition for Acoustic which will enable us to further increase our presence and reputation in the audiophile vinyl market worldwide," according to Kassem. "Over the years, Classic Records consistently was able to license the top titles that audiophiles wanted. Since that momentous announcement of the RCA Living Stereo reissue series in January 1994, Acoustic Sounds has been an admirer and strong supporter of the quality products produced by Classic Records. Classic has always been innovative and has set new standards for sound quality. Hobson always pushed the envelope to improve Classic's products instead of just accepting the current standards. It is an honor to now own Classic, and I intend to continue to use the innovations that Classic pioneered and the high standards they established," said Kassem.

Michael Hobson, who founded Classic Records in 1994, will continue in an advisory role to Acoustic Sounds to ensure a smooth transition.
"Classic Records has always been driven by my desire to make the best sounding records possible, and to that end we have successfully innovated over the years such that we are now able to make an LP that sounds better than when we started 17 years ago. I have worked with Chad for over 20 years and have seen Acoustic Sounds grow into a powerhouse in the audiophile market. In many ways having Classic Records join the Acoustic Sounds empire is a logical progression and makes a lot of sense strategically. I am confident that Chad and Acoustic Sounds will carry on in the Classic tradition of the pursuit of sound excellence, and I am committed to making sure that our knowledge base and experience transfers completely," said Hobson.

Committment To Our Customers

We here at The Music.Com are the best source for Classic Records titles, both long out of print and out of stock, at the best prices anywhere. Our commitment to our customers will continue and our prices will remain as they have been, without increase while our supplies last.

Expect Classic Records’ products to become highly sought after collectors items, which will exponentially increase in value and desirability. Be compelled to purchase now and stock up on these titles while their availability and abundance make this the best, and possibly only time to get the Classic Records products you’ve always wanted.

More info on the web:

Sales folks at Acoustic Sounds mentioned today that "Chad/Acoustic Sounds had bought 5, new (new, as in newly manufactured) record pressing machines for a new pressing plant!! Acoustic Sounds is going to start pressing their own records in Salina, Kansas.

This means the RTI will not be pressing (or at least as much of?) Acoustic Sounds records any more and that Acoustic Sounds will have much more control over the quality of their recordings. This can only be a good thing.

It's been said, the new pressing plant will be opening in October, 2010. Acoustic Sounds will be expanding to three sites, the retail location, a new warehouse, and the record pressing plant."

Maybe the quality will go up but so will the ridiculous pricing of records on these sites.

AS has been known to advertise music that, IMO, is quite higher than other "internet" stores. I shop around to my benefit, naturally.

$50 for a superb slab, 45RPM X 2, in an immaculate gatefold cover is not so expensive especially considering an AF Gold or MFSL CD lists for pennies under $30. Not a lot of product real estate on a CD or case as compared to what you get w/a LP set as mentioned (we haven't even touched on the sonic comparisions).

Having said that, I believe he'll keep the prices within todays range -- time will tell though.

Us audiophiles want affordable, great mastered/remastered music w/o any flaws/warpage/misaligned labels/tics, etc. I hope he succeeds in this area too.
