Default My 50 lb Paperweight-Sunfire

Yep, I got one of these "wonderful" Sunfire True Subs Mk-IV model that has been a miserable waste of money, repaired once, for the infamous failure of auto turn on. Same issue again. It's been sitting now for 1-1/2 years in a spare bedroom.

Don't know what to do with this one, but there it sits, $1500 down the toilet, Rita's is long gone, and just do not know who to trust with this pig in a poke?

Mark.......Mystery item for a garage sale. Once it's gone the healing can begin.

Even if Rita was still in business, the repair wouldn't make it bullet proof unfortunately.
This is a series of subs that would need a recall given the number of units with issues...

It would've been nice if things weren't so "proprietary" so to speak, and if one could've at least found availability of the Schematics, but no dice.

Some comments I once read about such Subs, is that the Plate Amp being in such close proximity to the Driver literally tears them apart. I once believed this to a point.

But after the first repair, I barely used the Sub and if I did, it was at almost inaudible levels, only to ever so slightly compliment my pair of JBL 4430 Monitors. I never pounded this sub from brand new in fact.

Thus I further concluded that the design was either somehow flawed, or that the consist of parts were horribly cheap Perhaps a combination of the two?

What would've been nice, would've been an option to totally bypass the auto-turn on feature, with just a simple on-off switch. I imagine someone with some electronic expertise could probably accomplish such?

Default A potential solution

If you want to try and fix it, these people now carry the flag for Sunfire.
Carver Audio Repair

As you noted that might be throwing good money after bad. Let the healing begin, as Dan noted. A cathartic one way trip to the local rifle range might speed up the process.

Another approach would be to use an external amp, like a Behringer Europower 2000. You would need to be handy enough to find the wires attached to the driver itself and route them out of the box some way, while also disconnecting them from the internal amp. Shouldn't be too hard. The new amp will cost less than the repair.

Tom.......The external amplifier option is a great suggestion.
