Other than the fact that it offers the very similar interface to that of the MS750, there really isn't any reason you need one. I have both Sonos and the Escient, and unless I am accessing some of the features unique to the Sonos, I usually find myself using the Escient since I like the MS750-style interface, which obviously includes the on-screen display. It's not a big deal, but then it's not a big price either.

I don't believe so, Dan. It has to "look" at either an MS300/750, a similar Escient sever, or a PC or Mac hard drive running "Fireball Server" software.
