I updated the firmware on my MX121 by plugging one end of an ethernet cable into the unit and the other into my router. Selected the "update" menu item on the MX121 and everything went smoothly. Why can't all Mac units be like that?

Did you install the Mclntosh update software on your computer? If so, did you have any issues with that? Thanks |

Very well said, Dan. I'm a McIntosh fan, but I really can't consider anything but their amps. I'm reading far too many horror stories about McIntosh and digital to consider digital Mc products.

Regarding shipping with outdated firmware, it seems even Apple products require an update when taken out of the box. There obviously is a delay in the manufacture of chips and instillation. Updating each unit prior to shipping may make sense but I am not sure how easy it is for McIntosh to access the units to do so.
I also wonder the cost involved for setting up a server to allow for on line updates by end users. It likely isn't that costly but the expertise may be lacking. No doubt it is frustrating to have this recurring issue for clients. I might suggest McIntosh train its dealers to update all units before they are delivered and installed or at least give the client the option of having it done before taking the unit home. |

No matter what, this (firmware updates) is a situation that needs some action by the factory. The current situation is not up to their brand as it has been created through the decades. No doubt 'digital' has tarnished this brand for me at least.
As for Apple, sure they do because they update frequently. BUT the customer only has to connect and it updates easily. You don't have to pack up your precious glass faced equipment, drive or send it to your dealer and wait for it to come back.

Firmware update on C1100
Another minor detail re: firmware update on C1100. This becomes relevant if you have to drive a distance to your local dealer or heaven forbid, shipped. Bring the HR085 remote. You cannot update the C1100 without your remote as you must use remote to enter a code which the installation program on laptop gives you. I drove 70 miles down to New Orleans on my day off with C1100, power cord, and manual. I didn't think to grab the remote. Since my dealer didn't have a C1100 on their showroom floor or any other component that uses HR085 (D1100 also ships with same remote), I was dead in the water and had to re-schedule another trip down to New Orleans. The tech tried to program a universal remote, but true to form, the remote control codes for the new HR085 are not part of any database that my authorized McIntosh dealer has access to. He programmed universal remote based on the C1000 codes but that failed to control the C1100. Bring your remote.
