First foray into acoustical treatments

I just ordered 2 tri-traps in bright blue with scatter plates. I am going to go about this slow. I want to see how the room changes with each change. I am excited to start the process!!

It is a fun, daunting process. So much trial (and error) to be had - but you will certainly become an expert in no time!

I recently installed 4 of GIKs corner bass tritraps in the front corners of our listening room. They had a pretty big impact.........I do have stereo subs, but I turned them off to see how much of a difference they made. Wow! The bass extension from my mains are waayyyy better, much smoother. Less boominess in areas around the room. They did pretty much exactly as they're supposed to, smooth out response, increased soundstage, etc.

Tritraps, and bass trap in general, are a must-have for any serious room.

I'm more than happy by mine and GIK was a great help along the way.

I have been going back and forth regarding room treatment. Two weeks ago I tried ASC 16" round tube traps in the front corners...the results were minimum. Considering I don't have any room treatment I expected more! Now I'm trying to figure out the best GIK products for my room...20' x 24', carpeted, 8' ceilings. I played several songs and walked around my room and noticed excess bass in the front left corner. Looking for some advice regarding room treatment.

My advice is to spend some time learning how to make REW work. This will give you immediately what are the problem in your room. It takes some times getting used with the software but there are many tutorial and it will pay dividends

Plus if you send the data to GIK, they will tell you exactly what you need to buy to correct the acoustics.

I've tried several times to download REW and it hasn't worked. Can you recommend any other acoustic software program?

You have a big "small room." It might take more treatment than you expect. I have 12 ASC columns of various sizes in my 24 x 16 room. IMO, tube traps are good for a level of mid-bass absorption, but they are not cure alls.

Speaker location and seating position can have a much more profound effect because of how standing waves work. Subwoofer number and placement also has a big impact, especially in how integrated they are.

What problem are you trying to fix? Boomy bass? No bass? Muddy midrange? Ringing?
