Default Next step in my system upgrade

Hi,
I just placed an order for 4 - 242 Acoustic panels and 2 - Tri-Trap corner Bass traps. I am looking forward to a sound improvement with room treatments.
My room is 13'-10" by 17'-01 ceiling slopes up from 8' to about 9'. I hope to use REW for a before and after review...but of course my ears will be the deciding factor!!!

Blaine

Hey Blaine,
If you haven't done the before and after measurements in the room yet, I'd like to make a request for the measurements: take measurements of each speaker individually and both together on the before and after measurements. For low frequency measurements (300 Hz and lower), both speakers works great because it really drives the room modes harder and it's more realistic. But for looking at the full frequency response in the room, if the mic isn't absolutely perfectly between the speakers, it can show a lot of peaks and dips due to the two sound sources combining at the microphone head that don't really happen when we're listening to the music.

Good advice Alex,

I've been verrrrrrry slowly working towards deciding what to get with GIK (Bryan has been very patient with me and all my emails haha) and finally got a mic to measure my room and test speaker placement (still in a holding pattern on the treatments!). That's been fun in and of itself and pretty telling how sensitive the (2 speaker) response can be to placement! 2 inches closer to the back or sidewall looks to change the response by a few dB in the low end with pretty huge swings when you get up to a foot difference.

Alex,
I am just starting to hook up the equipment for testing. I have a EMM-6 mic and a TASCAM US-122MKII sound interface. I will be using REW on a Mac. When I get a working hookup, I will take your suggestions. PS I have the 4 - 242 and 2 Tri Traps already; got them the day after XMas!!!!. Bryan recommend some GridFusors for the back of my room; those should be here this coming week.

Excellent, sounds like you're getting it all ready to go. Feel free to send Bryan or I an email if you encounter any problems with the measurements.

Alex,
I will be sending Bryan some of my REW data files.
Thanks.
