C50 and Mc2000 sounds GREAT together!
Spent some time listening to my new toy. I've compared the C50 DAC to my Cullen mod PS Audio DAC Link III. Both connected to 2010 Mac Mini music server running iTunes. I can't say that I could tell the difference between the two DACs. That is a good thing for the C50 IMO because I loved the PS Audio DAC. So this means I may sell the PS and save some space and wires.
The preamp has the modern sound and details I was seeking. Combined with the Mc2000, it is sweet baby sweet. The headphones amp on the C50 is very good and drives my Sennheiser HD800 with ease. Is it as good or better than my Lehmann Audio headphones amp? No, but it's 95% there. Overall, I am very very happy with the purchase. Now, if McIntosh would fix some of the little issues I would be an even happier man. I highly recommend the C50.

The system looks great Mike. My one week at home trial with the C50 agrees with your conclusion that it does indeed sound more "modern" and detailed than previous McIntosh preamps I've owned. Unfortunately, in my case that's not what I was looking for. I say unfortunately because the build and features of the C50 are simply AWESOME! The ability to control tone - and cartridge loading, balance, etc. - with the remote was very addictive and useful.
The meters also look great. I do miss meters in my current setup. Who knows, if I had the Shindo Cortese amp already in my system I might have kept the C50 since the warmth of the SET Cortese would have balanced the more neutral presentation of the C50 and given me the level of deliciousness I was aiming for. Alberto PS Your post with the comment about "the modern sound and details I was seeking" shows the importance of knowing what one's objectives are when changing a system component. We all have different preferences and it's key to know what those are; it's the best way to minimize costly mistakes when buying gear. |

I'll try to take more pictures. It's hard because the refection from the glass front. I should get a polarize filter.
