Absolutely and why not, if you enjoy the new look and you think it sounds better.

Tony…” It's a rather superficial and oversimplified view of the topic.”

Very much so. It starts with a ridiculous statement that audiophiles are rich. Wrong. I would say the vast majority are not. They are passionate and willing to invest over the long term. Also, without the ability to just go out and buy the very “best”… expensive. It results in enormous research to be able to select the very best for the money.

Then incorrect broad sweeping generalizations that are largely incorrect. I have read / heard so much stuff like this.

Absolutely agreed, and many good high-end dealers can tell you about customers of relatively modest means who are serious audiophiles. It's not so much a matter of wealth as it is priorities. Obviously, if you're spending big $$$$$ on fancy leased SUVs, world travel, fine dining, and/or jewelry, you're not likely to have much left for audio. But - if after paying your bills and hopefully contributing to your retirement plan - you make audio and music a priority, it's amazing what you can do.

My first real high-end speaker system was a new pair of Infinity 2.5s with the active external x-over, probably around 1980. I wasn't making a big salary, but lived in a cheap rented house with a roommate and drove a Chevy. Priorities.
