Difficulty with Mcintosh preamp sync USB out with N10?

I have a Macintosh 2500 pre amp and found the USB to be very finicky. As j3Brow mentioned, what order of turning on components can be a factor. After I had the firmware upgraded to 1.03 (?), it was less finicky but still had some "Shiba Inu Behavior." The USB on occasion was still craping out on extended play.

I have been using a Toslink cable from the headphone jack of a MacBook pro for many months without issue. The coax inputs have worked fine with my CD player.

Eventually, I plan to upgrade to an Aurender. The new N100C catches my eye for the coax input but dare I say, the N10 is after my heart (Dan's review and description of the coax clock are very convincing). Either way, I will use the coax outputs period.
