The Elipsa is a more forgiving speaker that is not without it's own euphonic coloration that is very pleasant but IMHO requires the right partnering amp. The MC2301's would be a much better match if tubes is the way you want to go. You can get a pair for about $13k these days.

Is it your opinion that a pair of mc275s (150w) mono blocked would also be mushy with the Elipsa or the Elipsa SE?

I think the MC275 in mono would be enough power for the Elipsa. The Futuras sound awesome with the MC275 in stereo.......(Sensitivity is very similar on the Elipsa SE and Futura)

Can you take your amp to a local dealer and test it out??

I agree. He was talking about using one and not mono-blocking and about the Elipsa and not the SE so I think all is ok.
