I have to tell you the Recovery is sounding excellent with its own power supply. . .
Slight diversion here --- if the iFI power unit held the Recovery wouldn't it also help the Remedy as well???? I think I might get two and see.

Anyone tried that?

Craig.......I suggest you just audition your first iFi power supply with the Remedy, providing they are both 9 volts. I'll have to go check the Remedy I have connected to my Sonos zone player.

The two W4S power units for the Recovery and Remedy look identical.

W4S Recovery undated board, has anyone needed to install this or does the current release include a new updated board?

Recovery updated board

For those that need it, we offer an upgraded Recovery board that addresses a rare incompatibility with certain DACs. Common indicators that you need the update are:
  • Your DAC is no longer recognized by the computer when using Recovery
  • Your computer displays an 'excessive power on USB port' type message
  • Both Recovery LEDs are lit, but no sound
The reason behind this is that the DAC you are attempting to use requires a higher-than-normal inrush from the USB port, causing the Recovery to go into 'protect' mode and effectively stop communication between your computer and DAC. The update to the Recovery board will allow for this higher power requirement from your DAC.

Update procedure:
  1. Purchase the update (below) in the quantity needed, plus return shipping.
  2. Print out and include the email sales order inside the Recovery package
  3. Send back the Recovery(s) to us for update. IMPORTANT: Just send the Recovery unit(s) in original packaging. Do NOT include the power supply or USB cable.
  4. Once received, we will update the board and ship the Recovery(s) back to you

Hmmmm.... I would call them. I heard that there was one specific type of DAC that was causing an issue. I read in another forum something about an XMOS USB receiver? If I am remembering correctly it was DACs using this type of USB that were having an issue. I also gather that it is kind of rare and usually very expensive DACs (again I could be completely wrong about this).

I should be OK with a Esoteric K03 tied to a modern i7 Toshiba laptop usb 2.0 or 3.0 port with nVidia video card though huh?

It is a top end laptop about maybe 1 1/2 years old.

Thanks Randy!

From my understanding it is not the computer but rather the DAC. I am pretty sure that Dan is using K03. I know that several people here use Esoterics and I used it with my Teac for a while. I would be certain that you would be absolutely fine.

On a side note on Windows based PCs in device manager are all of you folks disabling the power management on the USB port drivers? I say and recommend too.
