Once I had the Soloist back out of the wall installations, I went through these steps, and they did solve the problem. I tried to straighten the black heat shrink material and slightly bend out the plastic housing the shrink attaches to. A quick test just showed that the LED is now visible though the window on the outside.

Thanks to VG Austin for putting me onto this solution.

True, Dan. This was an unexpected solution to my problem. To be fair, Ivan had already sold me a replacement that is in the wall now, and PS Audio has offered to apply the cost of the Soloist and a good discount if I return the Soloist for anything in their current catalog. I don't know for sure what I will do now.
