Default X250.5 from Levinson No. 334?

Anyone here move on to an X250.5 from a Mark Levinson No. 334?

I love my Levinson but it's getting a little long in the tooth.

I like the X250.5 or perhaps even the X150.5 - perhaps that might be a better choice as the amp will be on 24x7x365, just as my No. 334 has been since I purchased it.

Also, what do people with home theaters do? Tape a piece of construction paper over the meter to block the blue meter glow?

Just use the blue light as though it was a movie theatre light that lit the way to your seat.I have mono block Pass amps with a screen and they are not a distraction.

I've cut out pieces of photographic paper in the shape of the meter and popped them in to block out the blue light. Love the xa100.5 amps but wish they had an off button for the meters.

Bill - I love this amp, but the X250.5 runs hot while idling since it is biased for Class A operation for the first few watts of power output. Just be sure to leave plenty of room for the amp to breath and cool itself if you plan to leave it on all the time.I like the blue light. It adds elegance to the amp's design particularly when listening in the dark.

FWIW the power consumption of an X250.5 is 300w.

My Levinson No. 334 draws 260w at idle, so at least the power draw isn't that different.

According to my owner's manual, the X250.5 power draw at idle is 350W. Point is it always runs hot to the touch.

I just bought a pair of X600.5 amps. They added over $200 to my electric bill with just two weeks of operation. The routine is this, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday they are on from about 7:30 PM to 12 AM. Thursday I turn them on about 7:30 and they stayed on until Sunday night around midnight. I looked at the electric bill this weekend, and it was $450 for July, which is about $250 more than normal. Between the amps and the AC, I was using way to much electricity. So, they have not been on since Sunday, and will stay off until Friday morning. Then I will turn them on again to enjoy Friday night, and then off again.

Today I signed a contract to have solar installed so that I can use my amps and AC without going broke. Theoretically, I recoup my investment after 4 years, and then start making money by selling excess electricity back.

I hate the meters at night since they burn into your eyes while trying to enjoy the music. I cut out two pieces if cardboard and slide them know the slots created by the facade around the meters. Works great.

So, if you are going to buy Pass amps you need solar cells and cardboard to enjoy them.

Hmmmm…

(50w is a quibble, though.)
