And, isn't it nice that lenses with OIS have switch to turn that feature on and off - so those with steady hands may turn it off and get a little bit more sharpness from their lenses. As for me, I do have shaky hands and would love to have OIS, or its equivalent, on every lens I use - and I even wish it was available on more prime lenses. At 82.5 mm, "the ideal portrait length" my lens shakes so much, my pictures appear out of focus unless I have the OIS turned on. And I do wish the 16-55 zoom lens had OIS so I could use it. The lack of OIS on that excellent lens is the only reason that I do not own one.

The 16-55 f2.8 is a very well built superb lens that excels in both sharpness corner to corner, is resistant to flare with instant focus. The kit lens is terrific also with very good sharpness but not corner to corner and does not have the bokeh due to the variable aperture at 55 for portraits. The 18-55 does have OIS and is smaller and lighter. I had the 18-55 but appreciate the equivalent to prime sharpness with quick autofocus that 16-55 has to offer. They are both good lens, it just depends on what your looking for. They both have excellent build quality i.e. metal lens. I think for video the OIS would be more important. For still pictures the auto ISO will kick in and prevent camera shake for becoming apparent. The reason I read Fuji didn't put OIS in the 16-55 was it would compromise image quality and add to the size, weight and ad cost . The lens is already big with 17 elements in 7 groups. For me the wider angle, constant 2.8 aperture, aperture ring markings, sharper optics , faster focus, weather sealing were worth extra cost, weight and lack of OIS.

Here In northern Spain and the x-t2 is awesome. Should have gotten the longer pro zoom, but overall, it is excellent. I also love the peak designs sling strap. Never used a sling strap before, but it awesome.

I just picked up the new fuji 23 mm F2 WR lens. Focus speed is so fast and quiet I actually had to check and see if the power was turned on as it feels like the lens is not focusing i.e. no vibration or noise. The pictures are very sharp. This will be my walk around lens.

Headed to the show at Munich and wanted to replace my (not very long lasting) Sony travel camera. So, the new XE-3 shows up tomorrow and it’s immediately off to see and hear some great audio in Munich. Leverages my x-series lenses (which I uniformly love) in a smaller and lighter form factor, plus I love the old school presentation from Fuji.
Should be a great weekend. |
