Now that's an interesting design to say the least.

That is insane. I love the concept, just not the size. Hopefully the sound quality will surpass the logistical challenges, especially when trying to keep the wife placated.

Now that is different! I thought my 1.2’s were heavy, but these things are next level!!

Certainly is interesting, a unique design and shows Mcintosh is not afraid to try new things. The aesthetics may take some getting used to at first, looks better without the bird cage. I have to say the dual meter is pretty cool, not as cool as the holographic type of meter in the AR amp. but nice .

That's a lot of weight and space for Santa's sleigh. To get those amplifiers deliverd by Christmas, he will need to add 2 more reindeer for more rp (reindeer power).

dual amp use?
It's hard to tell from the rear pics, I get bi-amping use, where you'd be using two sets of speaker cables, specifically using the tube output for your tweeters and the SS for the lower end drivers...but would it be possible to use 1 set of speaker cables and flip a switch to go from all tube to all SS?
Maybe I'm listening to an acoustic track that does not require a bunch of power at all and 300w is fine, I'd want just the tube amp...then later in the nite I want to listen to a bass heavy rock track and turn it up and I'd need the 600w of the SS amp. Is there a way to easily change the settings on the chassis to switch between internal amps without having to change the posts the speaker cables are attached to (not that convenient to swap out the posts at the back of an installed amp!). |

Quote:
Dimensions: 22.5 x 11.5 x 32.5 in (whd); 57.2 x 28.0 x 82.6 cm (whd) Weight: 570lb/258Kg. So, there is precedent. At this cost/size/weight level (the MC901 is still much less expensive), the folks who are likely to purchase the MC901 (or, say, the Relentless) are also likely to place the amps on the floor in a dedicated audio room. Bloody impressive! Bob |
