I ordered some of these in platinum grade. Mullard CV4004/12AX7 boxed-plate, made in Great Britain.

Chuck.......I hear you. I put three Mullard's in my original MC275, and when I pressed the power button I damn near had a heart attack when all three glowed orange for the first second or so. I went online and read about them, and discovered that the way Mullard's heaters are installed in the tubes allows the filaments to be seen, and the quick glow from the current inrush through the filament is normal. Like you, my first thought was about damage to my amp.
