Default Summit X + Vienna Acoustics The KISS KLIMT

Today, I goofed around in my office and added a pair of McIntosh MC275s to my office system running MC2301s as well as combining the following speaker arrangement: Summit X + Vienna Acoustics The KISS KLIMT

Note: I am a devoted fan of Martin Logan.

After adding the traditional box type speaker [Vienna Acoustics The KISS KLIMT] has added an additional auditory flavourful layer of sound. Wew...I can't put into words the sensory delights, but I am startled and the new sound dimension. I am getting both an electrostatic sound along with some traditional movement. The experience is fun and interesting.

Anyone else else try something similar: adding a traditional speaker along with electrostats?

Sounds fun, but it seems it would be hard to get everything to hook up. Getting a subwoofer to seamlessly integrate into a system is hard enough for me...

Here's a photo of my HomeDepot copper wire or whatever it is. Proof I am using the cheap stuff!

But, I do have a pair of AudioQuests connecting the MLs.

Only because they are pretty, I may get another set of AudioQuests for the looks only.

HI Golucid, i had contact to a Austrian guy, who was also experimenting between Summi X and standard build loudspeakers. In fact he switched completely to studio monitors.

I still like my summit´s very much as i´m in to electrostatic sound also with my headphones, which is my personal counterpart to the Martin logan system.

As my listening room is smaller, the distance to my summit X is not too far. This and maybe while it is very quiet in my living area, i hear some fanlike noise from the bass section of my summit.
We are quite sure (the Austrian heard the same noise) the reason are the digital amp´s serving the Sub speakers.
If you get close to the active Summit (without music playing) do you hear this too?
Reason i´m asking is that it could be a problem limited to european voltage.
Thanks
karl

Hi audiokarl,

I tested this out on my end and on both the VAs and the MLs. I hear nothing. Zilch! Though, this might be the case because I am running a Furman P-2400 IT. I did not test my speakers without conditioning.

Perhaps it is either the conditioner or the voyage differences. I do not know. Did you test your end using a conditioner like similar or otherwise?

Cheers,

David

Hi David,
thank you for your answer,

because of a overvoltage situation i had in my room that killed one of the summit boards, and to optimize current for the logans, i bought a Furman too.

Here in Germany, the Furman IT-Reference 16Ei is the best one can get for home hifi and it´s a real heavy box.
This one and a cheeper version of a Furman i had tested also, and this one was even louder, i got an extra noise problem. yes, they are noisy too.

It seems to be a problem with the german 220 Volt current system!!!!

The Furman hum origins from the big capacitor which was fixed to the housing.
Dam the housing vibrations helped a lot.

For the logans its a problem of the cheep digital amps on the summit board.

I use a digital amp, an Lyngdorf TDAI 2200 for the Loudspeaker´s.
No noise from the Amp. The same for the Esoteric D-02 DAC, STAX AMP... no problem at all.
Only a custom made KGSS staxamp from Iceland has a little hum.

The noise originating from the summit sub´s is very faint and it has to be very quiet in the room to recognize it.
But i thought for 20.000 euros they should be perfect!

Cheers
Karl

After doing some research now im sure that all of the Summit X ML Loudspeaker have that noise problem. Reason are real cheap and crappy digital amp modules in the bass segment. Montis should be the same.
So all of US customers i had contact to, have a closer EAR to your Summit X sub system.

MacBookPro SSD-WW platinum usb--Esoteric D-02--Gruensch CLSII se Amplification--MartinLogan Summit X
Stax SR-009/007MkII--KGSS+Blue Hawaii-se Amp
