I had a transistor pocket radio that was very similar to yours Dan. I also wanted to take mine to school, so I hollowed out the center of the pages of one of my mother's large books in the size and shape of the radio. I actually got away with the ruse for several months.

Such excitement for a 7th grader and what great sound!

Julian.......I still remember my emotions the minute that softball hit my shirt pocket. I knew the radio was a goner. I got chewed out at home for being disobedient, but my Nana took pity on me and bought me another. She was such a warm hearted and loving grandmother.

The Bose get's 2 or 3/5 by WhatHiFi magazine in the uk, with a pretty lousy review. A friend has one; there was no real character to the sound, it's probably best as a top of the line alarm radio/cd. Granted he was no AA'er, but I'd stay well clear and get, say, some Marantz separates for a few £100 more. It's more powerful than my Dab radio, but the diff isn't worth paying for.

This is my table radio/clock radio/CD player I use in the bedroom. It is the Model 88CD by Henry Kloss. I bought it new almost 12 years ago, it still works perfectly, and I am very impressed with the sound, including decent bass. There is a separate amplified woofer mounted inside and a gain control for it on the back. The Model 88CD also has one set of line level inputs and remote control. The dual alarm functions are handy with battery backup, and I can wake to beeper, radio or CD. I love this radio. I hope it outlast me. It's another fine product from the mind of Henry Kloss.

I am thinking that this post got you motivated enough to go your bed room and snap a shot and show us how much you enjoy your Model 88CD.

Kal.......I have only heard positive comments about the Meridian F80 CD Receiver. Wes Phillips seemed to be impressed with it in his 2008 Stereophile review. I wouldn't expect anything less from a company like Meridian.

I remember when I was a college freshman about 40 years ago and one of my buddys got a new pair of 901's for his dorm room. That was quite the set of speakers at that time and the envy of everyone else in the dorms. He didn't like anyone going near them which was dificult in a small dorm room occupied by two.

You can get a replacement (inexpensive).
...Or you can even 'transfer' it to another remote (as an emergency precaution); a learning one.
