MIT was the one who started this price war. No wonder they want to stay on top.

Anyway - very bad for the industry.

Why is it bad for the industry? Bentley is not bad for the car industry, rolex (or more expensive brands) are not bad for the watch industry.

If somebody did not purchase them MIT would not make them. MIT is not twisting anyone's arm to buy these. As long as there are believer's with pockets full of cash there will be retailers willing to relieve them of said cash.

This hobby confuses me and so do the people. For example we have people believe that putting a $3K power cord on a $5K preamp is a great outlay of cash where I would suggest that you spend the $3K and upgrade the pre amp. I have been in this hobby for over 30 years and IMHO I have never seen where upgrading a power cord is preferable than upgrading a pre amp.

I do not always think newer is better. I have always had at least 1 MIT cable in my system at all times but would not recommend their current crop of releases. As of late I do not believe MIT has made any significant advances, as a matter of fact I think the opposite is true. But it could just be me as I was not willing to part with the $60K.

500,000 of which should be set aside to articulate to your wife why you spent $60k on cables.

At some point it's just bragging rights.

+1, but would like to add that in plenty of cases the people that would spend that much on cables probably are not audiophiles and have less experience than many of regulars here and it is just that "bragging rights".

As long as she, too, spend that similar money on some kind of pure carbon stone, we should be fine, unless she know ours are made of copper.

It is everything but the cable manufacturers have by far the highest markup.

That is a bunch of hooey.

The people I know who own Opus or Magnum Opus would definitely be categorized as "Audiophiles". They all have assembled top of the line set-ups over the years and care about how each component contributes to the sound.

I would hope that if someone is spending that kind of coin on cables, they have an audiophile reason beyond bragging rights. But in the end, if they can do it, they do gain bragging rights in some circles.

But it is far beyond even my dreams since a pair of those speaker cables cost more than my entire system and room put together.
