What do you guys use if you want to have a CDP in the system and you want your gear to match.

Is there a fairly recent Classe CDP that would fit into the system.

Classe CDT-300 fits the bill. It looks just like the CDP-800.

I love the screen!

The Classe Omega SACD 2 is another option....but its not QUITE as good of a fit as the CDT-300.

The CDT-300 is just a transport. If you want a player you'll need the CDP-100/101/202 or 502.

Those are all discontinued products aren't they?

Yes. But there are lots of pre owned ones for sale. Classe must be thinking the CD is dead. People rip and listen. I know I do.

So what are you thinking? Pondering a change?

Mike,

One of the places I do business with sells both Classe and McIntosh so I have some experience with Classe gear. It hasn't really impressed me in the past but it seems like the company is moving in a direction that makes it more attractive.

I listened to the CP-800/CA2300 playing some stuff off a computer then I went and listened to the MCD500/MC452. The McIntosh was more to my liking but that's probably because I still like using a CDP and i'm familiar with it.

Hmmm...a DAC and a Preamp with HT bypass. You have a couple of routes you could go. Yes, the CP800 makes perfect sense and is a great one box solution. It would be my first choice given your components and the reviews are all stellar.

But.......I'm going to throw you a curve ball. You might want to consider a Pass XP-10 preamp (or an XP-20 preamp if you can stretch your budget) and a Mytek DAC 192 (DSD compatible) for ABOUT the same amount of money. It's another option indeed. The Pass would add some warmth (without tube hassles) and the Mytek DAC is DSD compatible. Initial reviews on the Mytek 192 DSD DAC are excellent.

If you need a one box solution or you need bass management, then that rules out the Pass/Mytek combo.

I throw that out for consideration.

Mike
Thanks for the compliments Mike! Pass? Curveball it is. Assume the Pass has HT bypass? Have to admit that your review/comparison of the Pass amp vs Classe and Mac has me a little curious about Pass in general. I love your description of the Pass sonic character. I don't need bass mgmt, but i did like the idea of tone controls, although I guess now with av8801, i can run rougher Cds through the Marantz's tone controls to get listenable sq, and run the better CDs through the Pass or some other comparable preamp.

Not so much that the CD is dead but rather they don't see how they can add anymore value to the format that makes sense competitively. I only buy CD's but rip them to play because of the huge convienience it affords me. It is here with streaming and downloadable content that Classe' can provide the biggest gains for the audio enthusiast and at down to earth prices. They want to be the high performance low cost leader and they seem to have a working model.
