Hello, I have not attempted to run it through the loop, simply because I can't do it with balanced cables and I'm not real crazy about running it unbalanced. So I figured I would just live with it.

Unless you are running long distances with cables between components, I don't think running unbalanced cables will hurt the sound quality or add noise from interference, unless there are other issues. It's a cheap way to eliminate other possibilities.

I agree there should not be any noise, hiss or otherwise with no music playing at idle, and if it came about after adding the MEN220, I'd look there first. Perhaps see if you can locate a known good unit from a local dealer to eliminate your MEN220 before going further?
