Wow, you'll keep your dealer in business just purchasing replacement tubes each year.

I've jumped in the deep end by making installments to buy a Ref 40 preamp! I think this will be the foundation from which my system can be built in any direction, dig, analog, whatever!

My question of the day is:

Has anyone compared the Ref 40 to the Ref 10 with regards to sound quality?

Thanks in advance,

Welcome! I heard the REF 40 at a dealer and I own the REF 10. Both are excellent and unless I had them both in my system to A/B, I can't honestly say I heard any difference. Enjoy the REF 40. It's world class indeed! Building your system around such a fabulous preamp is a great approach. Congrats again and welcome to AA (you might want to think about joining AA as a MEMBER if you haven't done so already).

Welcome Albert,

I have a REF40 and love it. Are you aware that once you have a REF40 any direction, dig, analog, whatever! would probably mean CD9 or REFDAC, REF2SE and a REF power?

Can you describe to us your current system?
Pictures are welcome.
You will love the sound of ARC and starting with a REF40 is a dream many of us wished for.
Enjoy !!!

Albert,

Congrats on the ref 40. Agree with other posts. You will likely be seduced by ARCs fantastic ref line.
From what i understand, aside from the cosmetics, and customizable touch screen functions, there are also changes internally as well. ARC has decided not to continue with the teflon caps used in the ref 40 and found another part that they feel is superior. Have heard both units but in totally different systems/locations so it's not possible for me to comment on the differences. I think that ref 40 units on the used market are around $16k recently, which is substantially less than the ref 10! Whether the changes are substantial enough to warrant the entrance fee, only you can decide
