Yup, that's some expensive cheap coffee.

While some of the pods are not too bad, above all they're convenient. Some of the Starbucks pods are surprisingly good - for a pod.

But nothing beats starting out with high quality beans and using a good grinder with a halfway descent espresso machine. You don't have to invest much more than $500 to achieve so much better than the pods (of course, like audio, from there the sky is the limit).

I obviously agree with Cohibaman. I have said many times that my fresh roasted coffee and (well, more than $500) espresso maker have paid for themselves many times over as my wife and daughter refuse to drink coffee much of anywhere else (particularly at Charbucks). I pay about $5/pound, unroasted.

Forgot you had the gs/3 - you're good on that front. After the fresh roasts, and then (!) the grinder, you'll be pulling wonderful wonderful shots. On the roasting - just do it and don't obsess over getting it perfect. So much better than practically everything else, just fire away. In fact, I recommend just burning up your first batch so you know what that's like, throw it away and then start calibrating from there. Of course, if you want to obsess, that's perfectly fine too ...
