Georges Bizet ENSEMBLES: Paris National Opera Orchestra SOLOIST: Alain Vanzo, tenor. Maybe he is not quite Pavarotti, but Vanzo, while a bit different, is the next best thing to my ears. Very well done................. Unlike sopranos, of which we always seem to have a few, a terrific tenor is a rare commodity.

This is a classic but there is a recent recording from Pentatone which comes surprisingly close. It is in excellent HD/MCH sound.

Georg Philipp Telemann - Per La Tromba & Il Corno Da Caccia
Eolus, Jean-François Madeuf
Qobuz 24/88.2

ENSEMBLE EOLUS
Jean-François Madeuf: trumpet & horn Pierre-Yves Madeuf: horn
Elsa Franck & Johanne Maître: oboe Jérémie Papasergio: bassoon
Elisabeth Geiger: harpsichord
with the participation of (25) Philippe Canguilhem: oboe Jean Chamboux: drum

This album, a new release, piqued my interest.
First, I know the ensemble and I love what they usually bring.
Second, Ricercar has never disappointed me.
I was surprised at how quiet and intimate a full ensemble of "blowers" can be in the morning.
This is once again a terrific Ricercar release!

While preparing a lecture, I'm listening to this:

Haydn - Piano Sonatas, Vol. 7
Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, piano
Qobuz 24/96

Although I like these pieces also on a fortepiano, this is fantastic in all aspects.

Streaming Volume 6 (Qobuz 24/96):

I think all 7 volumes will go into my favourites folder.

Playing SACD 13 from this box:

What an ambitious project from this small label!
One of my more cherished box sets.
