Might be the 'best' version of this concerto I own. And I have many.
Also interesting is that Cluytens is the director.

Violin Sonata No. 9 'Kreutzer'
Lev Oborin, piano

Recorded in '53.
Impressive SQ for such an early recording.
Cluytens was a superb Beethoven director. Try his 6th Symphony with the Berliners.

Tim, I've been looking at this SACD box set that came out.

Default Handel: Water Music & Music for the Royal Fireworks

To start off the week...

Handel:
Water Music Suite No. 1 in F major, HWV348
Water Music Suite No. 2 in D major, HWV349
Music for the Royal Fireworks, HWV351
Le Concert des Nations, Jordi Savall

A characterful performance with a delightful sense of rhythm. Very good sound, but a tiny bit too warm for my taste.

Beethoven: Piano Sonatas Nos. 1-32 (Complete)
Paul Lewis (piano)

Disc 8 of 10 features very early pieces. This is charming music well played.

No. 5 in C minor, Op. 10 No. 1
No. 6 in F major, Op. 10 No. 2
No. 7 in D major, Op. 10 No. 3

Demonstration-quality recorded sound.

How can listening to a solo cello for more than 2 hours be any fun? Well, it would be a bore if the composer were not JS Bach or the performer were not Pierre Fournier. This is a classic rendition from 1961 and the recorded sound holds up extremely well; the full harmonic information from the cello faithfully reproduced.
Listening to Suites 4-6 (disc 2 of 2). Just superb.

I see it is available on eBay and from Tower Records Japan.

I have this set, available on Amazon at a low price. Sound quality is not bad all things considered. I will venture the guess that an SACD version is a remaster of this same material with the question being is it done from tape or something further downstream?

I believe it is the same cycle ('57-'60) as this:

Good luck! Let us know if you acquire the SACD set.

Default Mendelssohn: Octet

Now this...

Mendelssohn: Octet in E flat major, Op. 20
Ensemble Explorations

Excellent account of this lively piece. In the piano pieces, the pianist uses an 1874 Steinway. Good sound.
