I spoke with many times and met the man twice. He was a very bright man!
That said I had to respectfully disagree with him on speaker cables. To me as a builder of speaker systems as a hobby it would be like using wal-mart solder on your $400 seas tweeters instead of silver solder, or using radio shack caps and coils instead of Clarity caps that are sold in 3 diff price ranges and categories, and same goes for inductors using a $4 radio shack or local electric shop Vs a Goertz or Erse inductor. In fact many speaker builds get into some serious $$$$s in a hurry with high end parts. Mu self I build and design with cheap Benic components and cheap caps etc. Then when I am happy with the sound , cut offs slopes etc. I replace with the good stuff. My take is that a basic speaker wire yes will provide connectivity and a large enough size is needed for longer runs, increased loud power handling etc. and shielding. But from there is it like the components in the system. I can NOT see you buying a set of Wilson's Dynaudios, Focal's etc and connecting with a 2 bit cable. I may as well drink $100 a bottle cab from a dixie cup. They wire can make a HUGE diff that is why you do not use 12-2 house wire.. ugg..OK made my point. It is in the listening . A good system and you will for sure hear it in the cables, if not your ears are on white zin not cab |

Meanwhile he uses Cardas wire in the speakers he sells, could you be any more of a hypocrite?

He did that only to help sell his speakers. He knew that plain copper wire would work just fine (still the policy at McIntosh) but he also knew that many prospective customers might be persuaded if a name brand exotic wire was used.

How many high end speakers do you know of that advertise what internal cabling they use? Very few. Sounds like a poor excuse to me, and it's still hypocrisy no matter how you look at it.
