Don't know if it's relevant, but I was told by McIntosh not to use the 8-ohm taps on my 501s to drive tweeters, as they could be damaged. My speakers are rated for 300w and are 6-ohm.

When I had the XR100's in my system they were a very fun/engaging speaker and while not the most linear midrange or extreme revealing detailed speaker they provided me with more then enough bass and power to enjoy my music. I had them almost 4 years, before I upgraded to the Kef Ref 5 . I paid nowhere near retail for the XR100's and they did the job for me......dont pay MSRP, but if you can get them at say 30%-40% off you wont regret it......very fun speaker!!!!!
