Default Recommendations for affordable / quality in wall cables

Ok, I’m on the verge of finishing my basement and I’m hoping to get some recommendations for some in wall cables:

I don’t want to get too crazy with pricing as the basement costs are mounting...budget friendly recommendations please (also I don’t need to get too crazy as this is for surround speakers mainly)

-speaker cable (surround speakers only - 15 to 30’ runs)

-unbalanced cable for LFE (20-35’ runs)

-hdmi cable for projector (20-25’ run)

Also, I was planning on running all wiring through PVC piping for the entire runs inside the framing so I can tie any cable upgrades to the old cable in the case of any future upgrades after Sheetrock. If this is the way to go, cool. If there is a better way to do this, I’m all ears.

Tributaries, BJC and even Analysis Plus has some reasonable in-wall rated cable. Also contact the Captain at Audio Envy and see if he will sell you bulk cable.

See Ivan for bulk WireWorld offerings.

Run LFE balanced if you can.

For HDMI 4K HDR10 / Dolby Vision you will want to consider active cables.

For the PJ 3” PVC is a great option, probably not necessary for the other cables and PVC is not plenum rated so you will have issues with hvac returns, etc if you use it.

With long runs, I recommend you use balanced 4-conductor Star Quad cables from Canare. Their cables have the highest degree of immunity from noise and can be used for both XLR balanced and RCA unbalanced connections. If you use a quality cable sound will be the same, noise rejection is the critical issue.

Benchmark Media Systems uses Canare products for their pro studio installations.

Highly recommend Transparent Audio DIY cables with bricks. The best solution for long cable runs. I had tried a few budget cables of decent quality before wiring my whole house and 12 zones/ceiling speakers but the transparent audio was clearly and audibly better. Of course my theater had much higher grade transparent cables but i would not have hesitated to even use the DIY grade from transparent if I had to! The result was spectacular.

The difference between the long runs of any other budget cable that I personally tried and the Transparent were clearly in the much more relaxed highs and meatier presentation through the midrange and this was from ceiling speakers! The typical scenario to listen for is the abrasive highs and a much leaner midrange as the cable lengths increase.
