Saw it yesterday. Very Good! We went to a so called "Luxury Theater". It had super comfortable recliners, side trays and perhaps the best sound system I've ever heard. For such a great movie it was well worth the extra cost. Also the theater had a full bar!

The French are mad because the movie excluded their sacrifice of holding the Germans off while they escaped.

My 23 year old daughter went yesterday.
Although war movies are not her cup of tea - on the contrary! - she said it is a great movie. She was impressed.

I am encouraged that critics reviews have been very favorable. Perhaps it is because it was made by a British director, who might get vilified by his movie going fellow countrymen had he made a mess of it.

I saw this today with my wife. I had high expectations. Maybe I am the only one, but I was completely underwhelmed. They did nothing to set up the evacuation story. Zero character development. The camera work was great. Special effects were good. But the same can be said for the Transformers movies, perhaps.
But as far as telling a story, not even remotely impressed. Seems like the movie Pearl Harbor made around 20 years ago. Compelling story but suboptimal (disappointing) theatrical presentation. YMMV.

Good movie
Saw it today. There was as stated no character development. There was time for none. The movie would have drifted. Superb if unconventional editing. I will see it again. Soundtrack by Hans Zimmer will be on vinyl later. The voice of the air traffic controller is that of Michael Caine.

Just returned from seeing Dunkirk. As others have stated very restrained and well done. It took awhile to understand the timing differences in the three stories that ultimately come together. The 70mm version I saw was impressive. Since my wife decided at the last minute to skip today's showing I might go with her and see it again in IMAX format to see which I prefer. Not one of the great war films but still one of the better films of this weak year for Oscar contenders.

It's on HBO now. Not generally a war movie fan, and as others have mentioned, unconventional editing, but i ended up riveted for the entire film thru midnight, which says a lot for me when I'm channel surfing.
