Yes, their financial problems were 3-4 years ago when they were starting into streaming, and that’s when Xandrie came in. My statement has been from Xandrie for 3 years anyway.

Qobuz taken over by Xandrie.
Glad that appears cleared up!
In any sense business is not easy for most. I particularly like Quboz and now favor this more than Tidal, and hope they make it as I directly relate their passage to today’s audio. Sure, albums and cds are great but they face just the same type of challenge, enough interest to earn enough revenue to survive. |

It appears that slowly but surely they are building the US catalog and based on my interactions with them the Qobuz US people are a good group of guys willing to help unlike my interactions with Tidal staff when you can get one to respond.

Yep - if you're not the lead dog the view is always the same. I'm loving Tidal and Qobuz. But they are too small in the overall scheme of things to survive. That's my opinion of course and I wish them well, but the best option for them is to merge with a player that has enough scale to negotiate the best rates for content and bandwidth.

100% agree. Hopeful for them but not optimistic.

It’s not an easy market. The core part of the market doesn’t care about the sound quality and will be happy with Spotify or Apple Music and people who care about sound quality tend to still buy CDs and SACD (and vinyl) or have moved to Hi-Res. So they are stuck in the middle and can’t compete with either.

I still believe, be it Tidal, Qobuz, Apple or Amazon, streaming isn’t going anywhere. I wouldn't be surprised if Tidal or Qobuz gets bought out by one of the bigger players. I just hope they continue to offer a hi-res package. I personally love streaming, you can’t beat the music offerings, well worth the money.

Maybe Qobuz and Tidal will not survive, but somebody is going to take their place then. There is already Primephonic, a pure hi-res classical music streaming service, and others will follow.

I think the price is high when you compare cost to say Netflix, satellite radio for example or even Tidal. If they lower the price $10 a month more casual users will likely sign up. I’m signed up to a lot of other streaming services ie pay tv channels etc and will stay with Tidal which has been excellent.
