Default iPad - It's Out - Anyone Get One Yet?

The mighty 'pad is out. Anyone pick one up, or planning to get one? I'm still undecided on it's usefulness for me. Sure it's cool. But what would I really use it for?

I was at the mall this morning getting my glasses adjusted and I was going to stop in and have a look. I had to pass, it was a party at the Apple store. They had ropes controlling people getting in, those with reservations on one side those without on the other. The had coffee, water, juice and snacks for those waiting. Every time someone walked out with their bag with the iPad the clapping, cheering and shouting from those waiting outside made it sound like a basketball game in the mall.

I am sure I will end up with one sooner or later.

I checked one out earlier today at one of the Apple Stores in Austin (where we're visiting our daughter this weekend), and I was very impressed, enough so that I pre-ordered the 3G version later this afternoon. The processor is apparently much faster than those of the iPhone and iPod Touch, and the iPad seems much more responsive to various finger gestures, etc.

I think some are overlooking the advantages the larger screen gives to apps in terms of interactivity, as well as how well it will work for e-books, e-newspapers, e-etc.

Of course, they do call me Mr. Gadget, so your mileage may vary.

I did. I live in the heart of Silicon Valley. The Apple store in Palo Alto, where we went for lunch, had them in stock and the line was short. I bought one knowing that if I didn't like it I could either return it for a refund within 14 days, or sell it.

I am not an Apple "fan boy". I like Apple products because they work great as a result of thoughtful design and implementation. I was not sure I'd actually want or use the iPad.

After a couple of hours with it, I can say I am 100% impressed with it. Fast, clear, good ergonomics, great screen. Even the keyboard works better than I thought. It surpassed my expectations and I can see it becoming as influential as the iPhone.

Not sure if I need one... actually I know I don't need one. But after reading John and Alberto's brief experience with them I found myself on the phone calling my local Apple store and Best Buy. Guess what... both places still have a few left. BB is closer to me and they're open until 9pm on Saturdays. That gives me approximately 51 minutes to get my 8yo ready, grab my wallet and head out. What to do...?

I will one definitely get one. I am just debating whether to wait for it to be issued over here or get one from the US. A tremendous Sonos remote, one will make!

I am waiting for the next generation. A few things are needed for me to jump in. I want multitasking ie I don't want to close one program to operate another . I would like to see a USB port . Larger memory would be nice and lastly 4G networking and or handshaking with a iphone. I know the the 4G iphone is supposed to be released in July so I would expect a 4G Ipad before Sept. ?
