No manual in a Cadillac? Obvious... No manual in a Corvette? That’s sad!

I just bought a 2016 BMW 340ix, with a manual, as the new three series will not offer a manual (other than the M cars).

Smart. It will be worth more when it comes time to trade/sell.

It has been several years since either Ferrari or Lamborghini has offered a gated shifter. I wonder if analog will make any comeback in the sports car world?

Unlikely. Most folks wanted the F1 tranny in their Ferrari when they were available. The later model Ferraris with much more HP were clearly better with the F1 tranny as are cars with Dual Clutch/ PDK for all practical purposes. Except that it is so much more fun to row your own and the preowned market places heavy premiums on those last generation Ferrari manuals.

No Ferrari here, but I much prefer a manual (and a turntable).

I kept my five series (with a manual and inline six) for 19 years. Hopefully, this three series (with a manual and inline six) will approach that.

I’ll thrown in a crude analogy here. Vinyl and R2R is like the manual gearbox, a compact disk is like the automated manuals and today’s streaming is like the dual clutch and CVT.

Clearly the manual is old school, love it or hate it. It’s an effort, much like getting up out of the chair to switch the sides of the 45rpm favorite album or switching the reels. Some would have it no other way. Some can’t be bothered.

Would I want to drive a manual in traffic daily? No! For that I have an automatic. Would I want to drive a manual on the track if I wanted to be competitive? No! For that the PDK shines. Would I want to drive anything other than a manual on my leisure drives out to the country and back roads? No!

Yep, it’s not like I don’t have a few stickers and a few t-shirts from the Manual Gearbox Preservation Society.
