Have to say that I like it with the KT88's at the moment. Bringing a new pair of speakers on line in about two weeks and we'll see what tube mix it likes. I seem to have in my stash just about every power tube mentioned in this thread so far - even 807's, 6BG6's, 6K6GT's & 6098's.

EDIT: *Sorry, pics won't embed for some reason so a link to the dropbox file is included.
I have the same amp with one exception, mine has a UX4 rectifier socket. I have to use an adapter for 5 pin rectifiers. *I* like 6L6 and 6V6's in my rig. Just personal preference. I did change the coupling capacitors in mine. It had the green Russian .022uf K42's like yours. It is a little beast.

I didn't want the UX4 as I have more octal base rectifiers. I do have a UX4 adapter though for the few 4 pins that I have/need.

Would love to see pics of yours. Under the hood too. There are subtle differences in units that I like to take note of.

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum, although I confess I've been peeking at the topic for a while, with great interest, as I'm a proud owner of an Inspire SET/KT88 and a LP-27a preamp from Dennis Had.

Nice to learn about your experiences with this very nice gear. I'll be asking some questions over time, I'm sure you guys know much more about the equipment than I do, so thanks in advance.

The innards from Dennis. I have changed the coupling caps. I 'spose this amp is serendipity. I e-mailed Dennis and attached a pic of an amp he recently sold (a different build) that I wanted and he replied 'you gotta get this amp'. So I did.

I know of three of this build, mine yours and a friend of mine in Panama got one. We both have LP27a preamps.

I really had to stop my self from getting an Inspire 45 or 2A3. I would really need to have different speakers to get the most from either of them.

If your LP27a uses 80 rectifiers Tube World has some nice NOS Tungsrams at a good price. FWIW, I don't really hear a difference in 27 tubes...they are all good. Ditto on the 6BX7 and 6BL7 they are all good.

Just swapped in a pair of Bendix 5992 in place of the Pope's. Will give this combo a run for a while .
