Record Clamps
Curious to know if you swap between clamps or just stick to one for everything you spin.....

It is incredible to what extent some people go to in seeking perfection when playing LP's. I can't imagine anyone's ears being so well refined that they can tell a difference between different "good" clamps. Do you mark the records with the "correct" clamp information or do you just swap them out while playing until you find the right one - and how many different clamps do you try on each record before you decide?
I do recall that years ago there was a lady reviewer for TAS that took the time to adjust the VTA individually for every record she played. I suppose that after adjusting the VTA while listening, she marked the individual records with the setting information so she could repeat the correct setting the next time she played the record. I guess I'm just in the "set it and forget it" school, and I only use one clamp - the sealing clamp for the vacuum on my Basis table, and a screw-down metal clamp on my VPI.

Mastering the use of VTA and keeping records of your desired setting is pretty common, I know many that do.....I don't go as far as that but I do keep a log of when I clean a LP! VTA to me is much easier to use as a tuning tool compared to record clamp swapping for sure.....As for me I do a bit more than set it and for get it, by having all these tools available I'm still trying to perfect thier use!! Here are a few clamps that I use Last edited by Removed; 03-29-2012 at 02:45 PM. |
