Default McIntosh MC275 in Stereophile

Just received the current (Oct 10) issue of Stereophile and they review the MC275. The cover blurb "Stilling seeing off the competiion: The Mighty Mcintosh MC275 at 50.

I haven' ready the entire review but he seemed to like the unit paired with a Krell FBI integrated used as a pre rather than a 2300.

Out of curiosity, I hope they performed their normal test measurements.

Yes, they ran it thru the normal testing. It is upstairs but I think it said about 85W into 4 ohms and about 90+w into 8 ohms.

Will update when I grab the issue.

It takes Stereophile some time to put their reviews online. (Stereophile.com) I do not think there is one at this time.

I get the mag but haven't received the October issue yet. I'll be interested in this review.

I guess I had it backwards. Tested at:
8ohms = 90wpc
4ohms = 85wpc

Maybe the most true marketing ad of Hi-Fi history : "the 275 is hard to beat" from the Mc website.

He was impressed with everything except the bass handling capabilities. IMO that could be attributed to trying to drive Revel Ultima Studio 2's with a 75wpc amp. He preferred the 275 matched with the Krell FBI as a pre as to the 275 and 2300 which he deemed too "plumby" or too close to old tube sound.
His Conclusion
"Carefully set up and matched with other components, the McInbtosh 275 is a very good, very well-balancd amp that goes higher, lower, louder,and softer, with more txture an detail, than you might expect from a "modified classic"- or, for that matter, from any tube amp costing less than $5000. It certainly did more than I was expecting. By any standard, it made listening to all kinds of music a pleasure. I could happily live with it."

Jim...I haven't received my issue of Stereophile either. You keep saying "he" liked it etc...but you don't mention the reviewer's name. Can you let us know who reviewed it at Stereophile. Thanks very much.
