Hey Dave! Yep, I have a PK10 going in to the McIntosh MC452. On the wall side I'm using a Kimber WattGate 381 audio grade receptacle in gold becuause that is what was in stock. I'd probably would have went silver, but I'm happy with the gold. Good longevity and still a pretty good conductor.

The source is another story... I still looking at DACs to run directly into the 452 but most likely I'll just run a PK14 of the right length.

Nice, McIntosh loves Kimber power cords I've used the WattGate receptacles with great success. I'm now using the Oyaide R1's...

Looked that one up and it looks very nice, but I don't like they idea of the platinum and palladium plating.

These are the electrical conductivities in Ω-1 cm-1:
  • Ag: 62.8
  • Cu: 60.7
  • Au: 48.8
  • Al: 37.7
  • Rh: 23.0
  • Ni: 14.6
  • Pd: 10.0
  • Pt: 9.4

Are the Pt and Pd coatings mostly for hardness, durability, appearance, or are they supposed to sound different?

P.S.: Are you going to Austin this year?

And have you seen the trailer for new Ron Howard movie "Rush" about the Lauda-Hunt rivalry and the terrible Nurburgring accident?

No, unfortunately I can't make it this year and yes I've seen the trailer. That's about the time I became a fan of F1, looks like a good movie.

No they are simply for those that can afford them, of course you do need the system to go with those cables, my friend as 38k worth of cables in his system and he his very intelligent and does not have a big ego BUT he does have a BIG system.

Gary, problem with just chucking on a flame-suit all the time is it makes it fairly difficult to hear anything at all really...

I've also heard really musical systems where quite expensive power cables only seem to make relatively minor improvements or differences... I've also heard expensive cables that seemingly made larger differences but in truth without any real improvements.

In other systems I've heard power and signal cables that clearly contribute to making better more musically satisfying systems... way more than enough to justify the sometimes quite considerable costs.

My gear is modest and I've had great outcomes primarily focussing on power and mechanical isolation. Works for some and not for others.

But any discussion where people are told they have big egos and small brains because they have had a different experience than someone else sucks at any rate. no prizes for knowing where the smallness of brain might be hiding there.

More power to everyone who finds their own truth... Just crap when they decide to incessantly inflict their particular brand of truth on everyone else without accepting any potential for anything different.

Chucking on a flame suit isn't necessary because what you found is valid... just that the limits of that validity is the limit of an experience... Nothing more than that and no more valid than for all the guys who experienced something different with this stuff.

No need for anyone to flame anything when just a bit of empathy, humility and understanding can be so cool.

$3K seems to be the magic number from my experience.

To those that can't comprehend, then you probably don't have a rig that can reconcile any discernable difference.

Steve... I have a few Tara Labs Cobalt PC's ($5k each) coming, I look forward to comparing them against WW Platinums.
