Default A Star Is Born

Just returned from seeing "A Star Is Born". It was actually better than expected. Lady Gaga did a good job in her first role. (Maybe she has been playing roles for her entire career) Several of the songs were very good.

She looks actually pretty good when she isn't made up in her Gaga persona.

This was Bradley Cooper's directorial debut and my only issue was him relying on way to many full screen close-ups.

I have been surprised to see that the reviews for this film seem to be universally outstanding. Apparently Bradley Cooper knows what he is doing.

It is an exceptional movie. I could easily see multiple Oscar nominations. Great casting, awesome soundtrack and great acting. Very very enjoyable.

I haven’t been that entertained in a while.

I agree. Just got home from seeing it. I thought it was an exceptional movie as well.

I just saw it. Anyone else notice the McIntosh in the movie? can't tell if it's an MA5100 or not - silver face, walnut cabinet. It was in the house they moved into together.

I seen the movie Saturday. It’s really good. Highly recommended.

As far as the McIntosh. I believe it was a Marantz not a McIntosh. Unless it was in another sceen and I missed it.

Default A Star Is Born

In an earlier scene at his place in AZ(?), they did show what looked like a silver faced McIntosh piece. Sort of like an old C22 / MA5100, along with a pair of Infinity panels that looked like the upper panels of Betas. There were no woofer columns to be seen.

In later scenes, I saw a nice Marantz receiver...

Just came from seeing it. It was good, her acting was indeed better than I thought
it would be. It was interesting, probably the only time when I knew the songs well
before watching the film having bought the album two weeks ago and some
definitely grew on us.

They are for so many Oscars next year, but for sure original song and score are going
to theirs. I read that it's been quite a few years since the last time both actor and
actress from the same film are winners and even more when you include director
as well, we'll see.

And yes, it was a McIntosh in the earlier part of the movie.

I did notice the 'style' having so many close-ups. During the film I was
wondering if that was a resource to hide the limitations that he may have
to play the guitar or just a different approach. We know Lady Gaga can
perform live and for her it might have been as filming a live concert, but
for him, it may have been a stretch. We could see that he can sing a
little, but we don't know if he really masters playing piano or the guitar.
Another resource was to film from the back towards the audience,
it was settle, but worked wonders.
