Default Possible La Scala purchase

So I possibly might be joining the klipsch owners as I have my sights on a pair of la scalas. Im checking them out soon and wondering with older klipsch what I should look out for? The cabs are a little beat up but that's not an issue as my brother can rebuild cabs if needed.

They are older I know that however the seller has no idea what year or really much about them. Any advice is welcomed!

In my opinion it's dependent on what you want.

If you are after furniture grade speakers then I'd personally not care if they were working or not as the internals can be easily upgraded or fixed. I'd put the condition of the cabinet as a high priority.

If instead, you care less about the finish of the cabinet then are the drivers working and how old are they? (crossovers might need some attention)

Are these going in the living room or garage....

If you get into fixing them do you want to restore them to factory levels or spend more and substantially improve them...

If your brother can rebuild the cabinets, maybe he can firm them up and get rid of the issue of the sidewalls resonating. There are some wedges that people put inside the mouth of the speaker to firm up the sidewalls.

Lowering the resonating problem will give an increased perception of bass. It won't add any bass but you'll hear more of what is there.

I have a beater cabinet. My goal is to firm the sides, perhaps add a layer of 3/4" on the sides & front to give me another front mounting board so I can take it to a 2-way speaker (major sonic improvement from the stock design)

This is not my speaker but more of what I intend to do with mine (other than it's missing the sidewall reinforcements)

You can go to the Klipsch forum and do a search on "Jubescala"

Note, this is the small horn, the balls to the wall horn is the huge K402

Sorry about the size of the picture. I don't see how I can add a picture here unless I link it.

Thanks for the info!

These would be the birch (I think is the finish) on them. They just have some chipping on the sides it appears from being moved around etc.

My brother does woodworking for a living so it wouldn't be an issue having him rebuild the cabs for me if I wanted him to but would just take some time as he is busy with his kids. I was planning overall to mod them as time goes on but just wanted to see how the sound is overall.

My game plan was to run these with a low powered tube amp and tube pre in a second system I was going to put together with a source being a Mac Mini.

PM me or check out the AD in the FS Speakers.

but really, look for current or updated crossovers, water damage, and any unusual smells.
