There was no gear damaged that was plugged into a PurePower2000 unit. Only PS Audio and Furman allowed the gear to somehow be damaged. Again, I'm not making comparisons here, I have dedicated lines for many of the electronics in the theater so who knows what path, circuits and why the surge took what it took.

Serge.......Sorry to hear how extreme the surge damage is to expensive gear. If a nearby transformer blew up due to an auto accident, you most likely took a high voltage spike from the shorted power lines. It may have even come in on the neutral wire, which is not uncommon.
You may recall me speaking of whole house surge protection, where you surge protect your incoming power at the service panel with an industrial sized surge protector, then use secondary protection around your home to clamp any minor voltage spikes that leak past the main surge clamp. Clamping voltage spikes at the service panel before they enter your home's wiring is essential. I highly recommend you have an electrical contractor install an industrial level surge protector at your service entrance panel, or have the power company install surge protection at the meter base. I use the Dytek DTK-120/240SA Residential Surge Arrester on my main service panel, a second one on the 200 amp panel in my laundry room, and a third one on my studio sub-panel. Prior to installing surge arrestors at all of my panels I lost a satellite receiver and television, a desk top computer, a complete telephone answering system, and a microwave oven. Since installing the surge arrestors over ten years ago I have lost nothing. Serious surge protection at your service panel(s) is the best protection, and far better than allowing high voltage pikes to travel throughout your home's circuitry.

By the way, does PS A have any coverage or warranties if the PPP fails to protect equipment in the event of a surge?

I'm terribly sorry to hear of your misfortune.
I hear these guys http://www.protectiongroup.com/Surge/AC-Protectors are excellent in surge and lightning protection. They do government, military and medical systems. I plan on looking into their systems myself. Last edited by GaryProtein; 03-22-2012 at 09:31 PM. |

Mike, just for the record, it was a PS Audio Soloist Premier outlet not a PPP.
