Well after enjoying my venom 3 for a bit, I bought a diamond back platinum for my RSA Dmitri. I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. It has almost no bass compared to the stock cord, The opening of DSOTM on Vinyl with the stock chord shakes the floor during the opening of the album, the diamondback no more deep bass. The midrange and treble seem very restrained and altered as well. The stage is bigger and more diffuse, but the music is less involving. I was looking for just good clean power, not a tone control. I plugged some household items into the conditioner and ran it for a few days, no real change in the cable. I am returning it to Music direct and will try the new Zitron VIper. Hoping I will be more impressed. Any thoughts.

Jeff

Just this. I am a big fan of Shunyata. They are the power cable experts. Their discovery of DTCD and then applying it to power cables allows them to predict the performance of their power cables, and their interconnects.

I now have a complete Shunyata power system, so I am a bit biased. It consists of their wall plug, a Triton power conditioner, Python Ztron, and Python CX power cables on all the gear, along with Anaconda Ztron speaker cables in my 2 channel system. The HT is all Venom power cables.

It still amazes me that power cables can make this big of a difference.

This explains DTCD.

Boy, I wish I knew ahead of time you were going to do that, Jeff. I would have steered you in the right direction. The Venom3 is a superor sounding cord to the Diamond Back Platinum, which is an older design than the Venom3. I have both cords, and the Venom3 is clearly better. I use the Platinums now on my HDTV and Arcam AVR, where they clearly improve picture and sound quality.

I recently replaced a Venom 3 and a DB Platinum, the DB Platinum was on my cdp and the Venom 3 was on my preamp. Of the two in MY system it seemed they were similar with the DB being cleaner from mid to top with a slightly lower noise. I am now happily using the Sidewinder VTX for my pre and cdp and am very curious about trying the new Vipers. If anyone tries them let us know.

The Hydra HC is made to power a power conditioner. It has the same gauge as the Zitron Python 9 gauge.

IF you are powering a powercondititioner and don't want to splash out on a Zitron Python but still want the juice it provides then Hydra HC is for you.

Listening to MOONDANCE 180g sounds nice so far. Feel like I may be losing some top end, it seem like everything is a little smoother, not sure yet if its colored or cleaner! Fit and finish on mine were perfect, no wires exposed, 4 screw heads thats it.
