Default Verity speakers/tube friendliness

Anyone here have any experience with Verity Audio speakers? Looking for a higher efficiency speakers with a tube friendly impedance characteristics. Verity has a few models that meet that criteria. Any other suggestions?

Funny you should ask -- my dealer just added it to his stable of other fine components. He's getting the Lenore line (plus one other) -- This has dual firing rear woofers of 8 or 10 inch (can't find the data at present).

Efficiency: 93dB 1W/1m;

Sublime balance of dynamics, transparency and tonal beauty;

Refined appearance and industrial design;

Stable 8-ohm impedance for compatibility with any amplifier;

Two isolated cabinets for superior sound coherence;

Superb custom-made and proprietary midrange and woofer drivers using state-of-the-art technologies;

Unique Verity Audio rear woofer configuration for extreme definition down to the lowest octaves; Space effective with no sacrifice in performance;

Beautifully crafted and finished with exquisite Italian lacquer.

Thanks Bob, let me know if you get a chance to hear them. I only have the Parsifal Ovation to listen to locally.

I just remembered another potentially good choice.

Serge...my dealer carries the full line and I have heard the Parsifal Ovations and the new Leonores (which replace the Fidelios which I also heard). They are tube friendly with sensitivity typically in the 90-93 dB and nominal impedance in the 8ohm range with relatively stable impedance curve across the frequency band usually not dipping below 6 ohms. Verity typically shows their speakers with Nagra amplification. At CES the Leonore's, were shown with a 300B based 20wpc integrated tube amp:

I like the Verity speakers although I liked the Parsifal Ovations more than the Leonore's eventhough they are an older design. The Leonore's didn't integrate as well across the frequency band and were a bit forward. I did hear them fairly new (they were at my dealer's for only 2 weeks and may have not been broken in sufficiently).

Serge, the other line of speakers that are tube friendly with similar sensitivity and impedance characteristics are the DeVore Fidelity speakers. John DeVore typically shows his speakers with Shindo or Leben amplification and recommends them highly with his speakers. You should check out their Silverback Reference speakers: DeVORE FIDELITY silverback

They are in the same price range as the Leonores in the $16-17K range. And for sure the Coincident Tecnologies speakers are certainly tube friendly as are Merlin sopeakers. I have not heard examples of either though. Hope that helps.

I have heard the DeVore Nines with an all Shindo set up.

The sound was completely magical, like you were there...

But, I cannot really say how much the speaker was bringing to the table...

Speaking of tables... it was an all Shindo 301 at ~30-40K...

Serge...are you thinking of exploring low-watt SET-type amps? Just curious as to what's behind your question ?

Serge
Buy the speakers you like. It is easy to find good amplification, including tubes, to drive whichever speakers you go with.

Stephen...The DeVore Nines are great little speakers. Gorgeous midrange. I heard them with EAR tube amplification and they sounded wounderfully nuanced. They don't go very deep so if true low frequency is needed, you will have to step up to the DeVore Silverbacks but the Nines are wonderful speakers. Your observations validate the DeVore-Shindo synergy that is reiterated by John DeVore and across audio forums.

Serge,

I have actually owned two pairs of Verity Parsifal Encores. I never drove them with tubes, but I actually had over two years of experience with different amps and other gear.

I used them as my main speakers for about a year when I took a hiatus from my Avalon Eidolons. Drove them at that time with the same Spectral equipment that is shown below in my signature. I drove the second pair with a Gamut DI-150 integrated amp in a vacation house.

Honestly, the results were staggering. The bass was deep and full - much better than you would expect from the size of the box - close to that of Wilson Watt Puppies, imaging was extremely good, Excellent soundstaging.

I have tried a list of speakers a mile long and sold most before their time - which is what I did with the Parsifal Encores. I'd be happy to try to be more descriptive of their virtues if you are interested.

Julian
