I don't like the way newer subs work. The new balanced force subs are digital subs. All incoming signal, be it balanced or single ended, is digitized via 24bit adc. The dsp normalizses the signal and then some 24bit dac(unknown) converts it back to analog.
Earlier version of the jl audio subs used a single analog filter to normalize the signal and kept in the analog domain. Fathom v2 are digital subs too now. Marketting is better when you have so many bands of parametric eq which the digital processing can give you. |

But there's no reason to not run PBK on them.

Yes but the sound is as good as the unknown dac in the sub. All the good effect of the pre-amp, dac etc before the sub is rendered less significant.

They are using a proven room EQ system by Paradigm called PBK, parent company of Anthem ARC. It does much more work in the digital domain (like the highly respected Paradigm reference subs and Anthem preamps) than any simple analog filter could. You can turn off PBK but I think you will find the ADC-DSP-DAC is quite transparent (especially at such low frequencies) and much needed in any room. I wouldn't worry about the "unknown DAC" or whatever. It is not our concern these days.

Just picked up and install a 210 in my theatre set up. Using a MRX 710 and Paradigm Prestige series speakers. Set up was simple and easy. Ran ARC and easy integration. Nice and tight bass. Love it.

I know this thread is for ML fan boys, but after recently auditioning them, they are very weak, and incapable of authoritative bass in the -20hz range. SUB means below audibility. As a former ML nut and owner of ReQuest models, their new subs are a poor value. Just like the saying: " Contentment is destroyed by comparison ".

Could have been room placement in which the subwoofer or you were in a bass null, the 212 is a beast with response from 18-120hz +-3db. |

One sub with (2) 12" woofers has limited displacement, its like a Camaro, you think it is a beast until you take a ride in a McClaren
Subwoofage is about displacement and there is no substitute for it, then add a low inductance driver which makes tight, fast bass, then you have a sub whose driver has to move very little stroke but launches a massive pressure wave in the room, while retaining linearity, low distortion, without stroke limiting DSP fo r most deep music passages. Below 20hz is where the SUB hearing range apples and where most sub fall on their face. https://www.deepseasound.com/product...c-24-subwoofer Small box that is 28" cubed, lots of power 4K watts sustained, 24" driver with over 4 1/2" of peak to peak travel. Normal in room response down to 3 hz
