Won't make this judgement until I hear what is offered.
Little Feat (and other groups) simply aren't the same without one of their main leads and writers. But, will give Fagen the benefit of the doubt for the moment.

In hindsight, I'm glad that I saw SD live a couple of times in the past decade, but to be fair too, Don and Walter were clearly both past their best and although the experience was very enjoyable it wasn't 'incredible' as it would have been in 1980, or even in 1991 for that matter when they came out of hiatus. Personally, I'm happy for Don to tour as himself playing the best of Steely Dan with some fine session musicians, and would still pay for that privilege.

Well put. Especially as all their albums were made with session musicians. One of the keys to their unique brand of music.

I think it was after Pretzel that they decided to focus on studio work, and that's when Don and Walter demanded a new level of studio perfection. KL is possibly my fav but for me there's not much in it between KL, Aja and Gaucho. Fwiw, I'm a big fan of Larry Carlton and Dean Parks on guitar, as well as Steve Gadd, Bernard Perdie and Jeff Porcaro on drums, and then add guys like Joe Sample and David Paich on keyboards, Brecker brothers on Alt sax, trumpet and fluge.......and the list goes on. I mean, Wow!

They were obviously blessed to have so many fine session players to choose from back in the day, and I think that's what makes the music so timeless. The latter stuff is great too but missing some of the magic.

This x 1000.

I totally and absolutely respect the music prowess of Walter Becker. But, Two Against Nature and Everything Must Go sound a lot like Morph the Cat and Sunken Condos.
