Default Any Trapdoor Fans

Am building a sporter Trapdoor. First pic is a TD sporter built as a prize for a long-range shooting competition in 1881. The second picture is what mine looks like. Be another year, or so before it starts to approach the original.

There's nothing more pleasing then admiring fine craftsmanship.

I enjoyed watching the TV Show American Guns when the it first aired. It was interesting seeing how they created some replica's of antique guns.

Keep the photos coming!

Glenn, that is so cool that you are doing this. When I was in high school, I dreamed of getting a kit and putting together a muzzle loader. Never did but I still love to see pictures of these older rifles. Did you machine the stock yourself or does it come like that but you have to finish it and assemble everything?

I wish I could say that I have the patience and skill to do that type of work, let alone the tool-set needed. The stock is made on a patterning (I believe it is called) machine. An original blank that someone has carved is placed in the machine and a pantograph follows its contours in order to cut out the 95% finished stock you see. Same with the metal work that is required. If I want the rifle before I die is best to leave it in the hands of the experts. My guess is that I'll get the finished product back some time the summer of '15, which is fine. A good gunsmith/stock maker is truly an artist in metal and/or wood.
