Default Bob Carver Vac Amps & Emotiva part ways now?

Anyone know the details of the break up? Strange it ended so quickly!

That, and I feel bad for the guys who bought these amps in part because of the 7 year warranty. At best, that seems totally up in the air.

Dan, I agree. Funny, that was the first thing I thought when the partnership was announced. Bob doesn't stick around too long for anything. According to the Emotiva website, they are "going to start selling tube amps on their website soon." Sad really. My guess, following the Emotiva business model, the amps will be made overseas now.

I believe Dan Laufmann, CEO of Jade Design who owns Emotiva Sherbourn and some of the Carver line, purchased the rights to the design. While they probably will still develop a tube amp line it may not say "Carver" on it.

Default Jade and Sherbourn

Jade bought Sherborn in 2009 and ended up shutting down the brand earlier this year. The products will live on and be part of their "Pro Installer" line.

So, other than the potential loss of under-warranty repairs ... would it be worth buying a pair of Black Beauties now, if you could still get your hands on a pair? Will these amps appreciate in value over time?

Boy, that's a tough call. A lot of the McIntosh and Pioneer gear in your signature will continue to appreciate yearly. I think it would be very difficult to predict what the Black Beauties will do. Buying $12,900 amps with uncertain support and a history of moving from company to company may ultimately limit their value to a lot of buyers.

If you love 'em for their sound, or looks, or whatever, buy 'em! I think there are better options if you want some appreciation along with stunning looks and great sound.
