Default Best affordable 300 B's ?

Hi all,

After a shortcircuit in my Western Electric 300 B, and lengthy discussions with the factory about the warranty, I replaced them with Electro Harmonix ones.

Of course the difference in sound is huge, but since the E.H.-es have a couple of years of intense use now, I will be looking shortly for an affordable replacement.

What make and type can you guys suggest to me? I adored the sound of the Westerns but they are pricewise too far away from what I am willing to invest.

Looking forward to your suggestions,

Leon

Sophia Electric "princess" 300b's are highly regarded, but I don't know from personal experience...

Thanks Jay, I will Google around a bit and try to find a testreport somewhere.

I really should finish reading the thread before I get too excited and post something irrelevant

Thanks Jay, I read around a bit and all the Sophia 300B models are doing extremely well in all the tests I found. Just looking in my wallet to check if I can afford the top of the range, the Royal Princess, at 1200 USD ex shipping per matched duo, or if I have to settle for one of the cheaper models by Sophia Electric.

Thanks again for the tip,

Leon

I would suggest looking into these. The KR Audio are a bit pricey but not as high as WE. I hoping to try their 845's in my amp soon. I believe that Bob (Vintage Tube) can get the GL's at a good price. Definitely worth a PM to him.

Thnx for that tip too. I will send Bob a PM when my current E.H.'s will dim.
