Tommy, have you heard it?
I had indeed put it in my list to consider, read good reviews, but don't know how it compares to Bryston, Classé, ...

If it's surround processing you want along with room EQ with the ability to expand/adopt to upcoming technology you might want to check out the Datasat RS20i with Dirac EQ. Another candidate in the high end might be the Theta Casablanca IV with Dirac.

Also if you want bells and whistles you can eliminate Bryston. It's apparently a great processor for what it does but it has no EQ, no ability to do anything beyond discrete 7.1, so no Dolby PLIIz, dts Neo:X and no ability to add Atmos and Auro 3D.

go with the new emotiva surround processor. Its only been supposed to come out for the last decade or so.

I just stumbled onto this while browsing another site, a new product on the way is the Trinnov Altitude 32. 32 channels available. Info to be available this summer with shipments starting in the fall. It'll have both Auro 3D and Atmos.

Thanks again friends!
Interesting thoughts. I think I'll stay with 5.2 for a long time, so not a lot of bells and whistles (Auro 3D, 9 channels,...) needed. We're planning room treatment, so I'm not sure a room correction system will be indispensable. For the moment I'm not using the Pioneer mcacc correction, I prefer the 'pure audio' modus, but then again, I don't think you can compare the Marantz Audyssey's MultEQ XT32 with the Pioneer in that aspect. Looking forward to more comments!

Another suggestion is a Meridian 861v8 / HD621 combination.
I love the Meridian style of presentation, which is more "laid back" than most and happens to suit my somewhat forward speakers well. Not cheap, but well regarded. As it happens, a friend of mine has just taken delivery of his SP3. At some point, I'll be trying to run a comparison of my 861v4 vs the SP3. I'll try to remember to update this thread post that. |

Oh, I love Meridian products - they never fail to impress me.
That is a splendid suggestion. I'm getting very interested in all this surround sound talk for classical - Bart , you, Toccato & Kal has inspired me.

I'm very happy with my Marantz 8801 pre/pro.
I'm also happy to have inspired Andy. By the way, my screen name is Toccata. |
